Kiss The Sky is an independent privately owned compact disc and vinyl record store ... one of the few of a dying breed.
The store is located in a far western suburb of Chicago called Geneva ... check out the "Contact Us" section of this site for more info regarding location, directions and contact information.
We really don't specialize in any one type of music ... we carry a lot of certain types while carrying a little bit of some others ... we tend to touch upon most every major genre while dabbling in a lot of minor ones as well. The staff is well versed when taken as a whole and is conversant in most every type of musical style from Advant garde to Zither based music ... Blues, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz, Metal, Punk, Rap, R&B, Dance, Electronic, Goth, Rock, Power Pop, Emo and even a little bit of Classical.
But we must point out that our specialty, if you will, is our knowledge, service and selection of hard to find music that the big box corporate owned chain stores just don't seem to care about.
Kiss The Sky opened it's doors on December 6, 1996 ...
However ... the concept was born during the late 60's when Steve and Mike (the two guys that started it all) were buds in high school . Both of them were avid music fans and frequented the independent music stores generally two to three or four times a week and started going to gads of concerts while still in high school. In fact, the very first concert that the two of them saw together was a show featuring the Liverpool Scene, the Kinks (Steve's all-time favorite band) and the Who (Mike's all-time favorite group) at the Kinetic Playground in Chicago.
During their college years, Steve and Mike became great friends while playing hoops together in Park District leagues and going to more and more concerts together. Often, the two of them would fantasize about owning their own record store. For sure, many of the ideas came from within, however, a lot of the thoughts were provoked from their many trips to stores all around the Chicago area ... stores like Record City in Skokie and Rolling Stone in Chicago and Beverly Records and their all-time favorite, Hegwisch Records ... a store which Mike and Steve put on the map through their three a week visits to the store which was located on the Southeast Side of Chicago.
Finally, after over 20 years of talking and dreaming and constant badgering by Steve of Mike, the two decided to do it ... Mike left a promising career in real estate and Steve left his junkyard business on the Southside and the two of them embarked on the sojourn that has brought them to where they are today ... a long ways from the Southside. |
